 PROFILE OF PROFESSOR HAKEEM BABATUNDE FAWEHINMI

Prof Hakeem Fawehinmi is a Professor of Clinical Anatomy and Biomedical Anthropology with a wealth of experience in Institutional Administration and well-rooted in the finest academic traditions. On completion of his medical training in 1992 from UniPort, he undertook his internship training at UPTH before proceeding for his NYSC at the Nigerian Air Force Clinic, Ilorin in 1994. He gained employment into UniPort in June 1995 as a Lecturer II and rose through the ranks to become a Professor in May 2010. During these years of his stewardship, he held key academic and administrative positions and served in several Statutory and Ad–hoc Committees and Boards, attributes which have equipped him with the requisite skills to provide leadership to a well-informed, articulate and growing academic community.

He has been an active member of his National and International Professional Associations where he served as Secretary-General and Member of NEC (1999 – 2000) Nigerian Medical Association, Rivers State, Editor–in–Chief of the Journal of Anatomical Sciences and President of the Society of Experimental and Clinical Anatomists of Nigeria (2014-2016). He has received many Academic and Community Service Awards such as Research Fellow to the Department of Anatomy and Developmental Biology, UCL, Fellow Royal Anthropological Institute of Great Britain and Ireland, Fellow Anatomical Society of Nigeria, Fellow Institute of Industrial Administration of Nigeria and Fellow Experimental and Clinical Anatomists of Nigeria.


 In these 25 years, he has been actively involved in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and research and has 3 Book Chapters, 3 Monographs, 71 articles in peer reviewed journals, regularly cited and visible in conventional academic search engines. He has reviewed 3 scholarly books, written Forwards to 3, presented 11 Guest Lectures and Keynote Speeches and delivered the 111th Inaugural Lecture of UniPort in October 2014. He participated in 58 Conferences and Workshops locally and internationally and is currently working on the Standardization of Negroid Gross Anatomical Models an invention in the process of being patented and won prizes at the 4th National Universities Research and Development Fairs. 

 As DVC (Academic) UniPort (2016 – 2020) the academic calendar ran smoothly and lectures and examinations were quality assured. The University achieved almost 100% full accreditation status for its over 65 undergraduate degree programmes from the NUC and Professional Regulatory Bodies. He has been involved in the conceptualization and delivery of several MoUs, partnerships between Town and Gown, fostered sustainable linkages and affiliations between the University and Industry partners, government parastatals, local and foreign institutions; sourcing and facilitating Grants and funding support into the University System, Endowment of Prizes and Professorial Chairs.

 Prof. Fawehinmi has been External Examiner to almost all the Colleges of Medicine in the 6 geopolitical zones of Nigeria, and has led Visitation Panels of NUC and Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria to some medical Schools. He is married to Mrs. Hadeezat Omotayo Fawehinmi and they have 5 children.
