PROFILE OF PROFESSOR ADEYINKA ABIDEEN ADERINTO

Professor Adeyinka Abideen Aderinto is a Professor of Sociology at the University of Ibadan. He was trained at the University of Ibadan where he obtained the Bachelor, Master and doctoral degrees in Sociology. Professor Aderinto started his teaching career in 1992 as an Assistant Lecturer in the Department of Sociology, University of Ibadan, Ibadan; and promoted to the grade of Professor in 2009. His main areas of teaching and research are Social problems, Deviance and Criminology, where he has published widely. He currently has 105 publications. Professor Aderinto has successfully supervised 12 doctoral theses, one M.Phil. Dissertation, more than 80 Master’s projects, and more than one hundred Bachelor’s long essays.

Professor Aderinto is a member of many professional associations, including: the International Sociological Association; the Council for the Development of Social Research in Africa, Dakar, Senegal; African Sociological Association; Union of African Population Studies; the Nigeria Anthropological and Sociological Association, the Nigerian Society for Criminology, and the South African Sociological Association.

Professor Adeyinka Aderinto is a recipient of many awards from the following bodies: Council for the Development of Social Research in Africa (CODESRIA); the Social Science Council of Nigeria; the University of Ibadan Senate Research Grant, the World Bank; USAID; the Inter African Committee (IAC) Nigeria, Macarthur Foundation, and many others.  Professor Aderinto has also been part of many collaborative research programmes and courses funded by the Ford Foundation; Packard Foundation, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, UNFPA, UNODC, and the German Academy Exchange Programme. He is currently lead consultant, Programme Support Unit, South West Zone, Saving One Million Lives Programme for Results of the Federal Government of Nigeria.

Professor Aderinto has held many administrative and academic positions at the University of Ibadan. The main ones include: Sub-dean Undergraduate Studies, Sub-dean, Postgraduate, Faculty of the Social Sciences, Pioneer Sub-Dean, Arts and Humanities, Postgraduate School, University of Ibadan, Pioneer Director of Special Duties in the office of the Vice Chancellor; and the Dean of the Postgraduate School. Professor Adeyinka Abideen Aderinto is also the immediate past Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic, of the University of Ibadan.

 Outside of the University of Ibadan, Professor Aderinto served as Acting Head, Department of Sociology, Lagos State University, Ojo, Lagos (2007-2008) while on sabbatical leave in the University. He has served as external examiner/assessor to many Universities in Nigeria, and Universities in South Africa, Ghana, India and Australia.

 In terms of community development, Professor Aderinto once served as the Welfare Secretary of the UI chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, and Secretary of the Senior Staff Club of the University of Ibadan. He is also Patron of the Abadina Youth forum, Abadina Community, UI, member, Osun State Health Rejuvenation Committee since 2018. He has also been a member of the School Governing Board, Abadina College since 2017.

 Professor Adeyinka Abideen Aderinto is happily married to Omolola Suliat, and the union is blessed with children.
